“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of, but the strength we can access in and through birth.” – Marcie Macari

Supporting Womxn through Pregnancy and Birth

Pregnancy and birth are powerful, transformative times in a womxn's life. The quality of emotional care provided to mothers during labor, birth, and immediately postpartum is one vital factor that could influence the emotional bond between mother and child. As you prepare to give birth, you may experience an array of emotions and have lots of questions arise each day. Part of my role as a Doula is to provide you with evidence-based information, resources, and advocacy. I will nurture and support you physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout labor and birth. My current offerings for prenatal and postpartum appointments include in-home or virtual visits, and I support births at hospitals, birth centers, and home births.

Benefits of a Doula

Studies have shown that continuous support during labor provided by a person dedicated solely to advocating for the mother has impressive benefits for both mother and baby with no adverse outcomes.

Research shows that women had:

-60% reduction in epidurals

-50% reduction in cesarean births

-40% reduction in instrumental vaginal births
-40% reduction in Pitocin use

-30% reduction in pain medication use

-25% shorter labors

-less likely to have negative birth experiences

-more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births

-babies were less likely to have a low 5-minute Apgar score

* The spelling of womxn comes from the intersectional feminist movement and is meant to show inclusion of trans, nonbinary, womxn of color, womxn with disabilities and all other marginalized genders.
